| Fernandez hits 200th win milestone |
Fairmont JV head coach Ron Fernandez has joined a club that few high school coaches are in. With a 2-1 victory over Sidney on Tuesday night, Fernandez now has 200 JV head coaching wins for his career. Last year’s JV team could not manage the elusive number 200 for Fernandez as he finished the season one shy at 199. "It’s just mind boggling how many wins 200 is” said Fernandez.
Since joining Fairmont in 2001 Fernandez has amassed an overall JV record of 53-23-18. Previous coaching stints at Carroll, Centerville, and Wayne are included in the total career numbers. Past players have been a big part of this accomplishment. “During one practice, the senior captains said they wanted to be part of the celebrations and wanted to play with JV to be part of the 200” said Fernandez. “Senior captain Brad Bamberger wanted to get an assist on the winning goal.”
“Personally the wins total is just a number, but as long as my former players learn and enjoy the game that surpasses any victory totals.”
Fernandez Coaching Career By The Numbers:
1st career coaching win is coaching at Wayne (Freshmen Leeds Team)
100th win vs Oxford Talawanda while coaching at Carroll HS JV
200th career win: 2-1 over Sidney HS.
